Within earshot of a celebratory Seattle University locker room, coach Cameron Dollar savored the afterglow of Tuesday night's 93-80 win over Portland State in front of 4,876 at KeyArena, a victory that assured SU of a winning record in its first season back as a Division I program.

"It's been a fun ride, that's for sure," Dollar said after the Redhawks (16-14) picked up their seventh win in their past eight games and ninth victory in their past 12.

Junior forward Charles Garcia, making his first start in six games, scored 20 points and collected 10 rebounds and sophomore guard Cervante Burrell sparked the Redhawks with 18 points and high-energy play at both ends of the court.

Seattle closes out its regular-season schedule Saturday at Utah Valley (11-16). Another win could make SU an attractive candidate for one of college basketball's secondary postseason tournaments.

"Potentially," Dollar said. "Utah Valley is a huge game for us."

Despite momentary lapses, Seattle had a good showing against Portland State (12-18), a team SU had defeated 80-77 in Portland on Feb. 7. The Redhawks shot 55 percent from the field (33 of 60) and outrebounded PSU 50-23.

After letting a 17-point advantage dwindle to eight early in the second half, the Redhawks led by as many as 20 with less than seven minutes left, sparked by Burrell's dashes and drives through PSU's defense.

Note

• Seattle U. recognized three seniors: forward Mike Boxley (a Mountlake Terrace grad), guard Taylor Olson (Ballard) and Chris Gweth (from Hillsboro, Ore.). Boxley ranks fifth in career steals (114). All three started. It was Olson's second start of the season. He had 10 points and Gweth 13.
