Hello spring, goodbye stuff

Hello spring, goodbye stuff. The ritual of cleaning up and getting rid of things just started in my household with a trip to the nearest donations drop-off point. The first load included a plastic toy kitchen my kids don't play with anymore and a big bag full of clothes - I finally parted ways with that Hawaiian shirt I hardly ever wore.

The visit made me wonder, what do they do with all this stuff?

Denise Small, Northwest Center Business Development Manager, said the items are sold to Value Village and the revenue goes to fund programs for adults and children with disabilities.

Northwest Center also employs more than 350 people with disabilities, like Walter, whose job at the Mukilteo donation depot is to sort out items and classify them in separate bags. Walter said everything goes to a good cause. "Even the fake plants."
