Free noontime concerts at City Hall, a welcome break from the cubicle

Every other Thursday, the noontime free concerts at City Hall are a great opportunity to step away from the office and enjoy live music for free. More than a hundred people came to see Seattle-based master pianist, flutist and composer Jovino Santos Neto perform Brazilian contemporary music this afternoon.

Santos Neto's playfulness at the piano energized the room. I had a hard time keeping some lines in my sketch straight as the samba played. Janice McKee thought he was "outstanding," and Marianna Archey said she'd go anywhere to see him.

"Every day should be free music day in Seattle," said Santos Neto after thanking the crowd.

Before the holiday concerts start on Dec. 1, mark your calendar for three more fall perfomances: The Greg Williamson Ensemble, re-interpreting popular music from the year of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exhibition using period instruments, Oct. 29; jazz sextet the East West Double Trio, Nov. 5; and flutist Paul Taub, Nov. 19.
