Remember Kristen Ramirez, the artist-in-residence at the Fremont Bridge I drew and wrote about in July?

Her residence culminates Saturday with "The Fremont Bridge Talks Back", a celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. that will feature 16 musicians playing trombones, trumpets and saxophones from each of the four towers, flags decorating the bridge and a 2.5 minutes sound collage that will play through the speakers. "I feel like I'm planning my wedding to the bridge," she joked when I talked to her this afternoon.

The audio piece blends the milliard noises of the busy intersection, from boats honking to birds singing, with voice-mail recordings where callers shared memories of the bridge. You can listen to it at 1-800-761-9941.

Ramirez recorded the sounds from the northeast tower -- where you can see me on this photo she took while I sketched -- and turned to sound engineer Travis Morehead for the final editing.

For the next six months, the audio recording will continue to play through the speakers every time the bridge opens, something that happens an average of 35 times a day.
