Farmers' markets keep summer spirit through September

I learned a new word this afternoon at the Queen Anne Farmers Market: pluot. I was familiar with plums, "ciruelas" in Spanish, but not with the term pluot. Fruit seller Katie Seward at the Tiny's Organic tent said not as many people grow as many varieties of them as they do. And you could tell just by looking at the array of colors, which was enough to draw my attention as soon as I got there.

The farmers market, at W. Crockett St. and Queen Anne Ave. N every Thursday through Oct. 1st, is open until 7 p.m. If you are in the neighborhood you may still have time to buy some.

I believe most farmers' markets across the city are also open through September. A visit is worth it for an extra dose of summer spirit.
