Tukwila stores doing brisk business this morning
Posted by Becky Bisbee
Kaitlin Strohshein found lots of frenzied shoppers at the mall in Tukwila early this morning, Here is her report:
At 6 a.m. the Westfield Shopping Center, things were less crazy than they were at The Landing. It felt like a busy Saturday.
But down the road at Kohl's, hour-long lines stretched from the front of the store to the back.
Mike Whatley, Kohl's district manager for Washington and Alaska, said that "roughly 300 'early-bird' items were scheduled to be on sale from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m."
About "300 people (were) waiting in line when the store opened at 4 a.m." to get the sales.
Whatley was thankful that "the weather's cooperating," and was "very excited about the results so far."
To beat Kohl's long line, Kelly Thormodson Beth Vosmeier and Pauala Hardin shopped as a team, taking turns waiting in line and shopping.
The team of friends also planned to visit Fred Meyer for the sock sale, as well as Costco and Target.
Thormodson moved to Iowa six months ago to avoid getting laid off at the cancer center in Seattle where she worked. But she came back for Thanksgiving to visit her friends.
his year, 14-year-old Jared Wallace from Auburn woke up at 4:30 a.m. for his first Black Friday shopping trip.
He's been "just about everywhere" in Westfield, and "Gamestop -- by far -- has the best deals" on video games, which he was looking for.
He's also looked online at Amazon.com.
