Richard Sherman says Bengals A.J. Green 'noise talking and bad routes'
Posted by Danny O'Neil
"He played very well," coach Pete Carroll said of Sherman, a rookie fifth-round draft pick out of Stanford. "He did a very good job. Richard covered really well."
Sherman intercepted a pass in the third quarter that was a go route down the sideline to rookie A.J. Green. The Bengals tried to go to Green on a similar play in the fourth quarter, and Sherman's coverage kept Green from making the catch and allowed safety Kam Chancellor to pick off the pass.
"He took away the deep ball on three different situations," Carroll said. "Two of them turned into turnovers. He played a couple short routes very well. Also in addition to the tackles that he made -- he had three or four tackles that were really significant plays. Solid hits. I thought he played a very, very good game. I was really proud of him."
Sherman's play wasn't the only statement, though. He was going back and forth with Green from the first quarter on, the two talking to each other after plays. After the game, Sherman gave his thoughts on Green to Curtis Crabtree of 950 KJR-AM and the Associated Press:
"I would say he's probably one of the most overrated receivers out there," Sherman said of Green. "He wasn't anything special. Dalton was a good quarterback. He makes good decisions, but A.J. Green is just a lot of noise talking and bad routes."
