Confirmed: Seahawks to waive FB Owen Schmitt
Posted by Danny O'Neil
McIntyre reported Schmitt is being released to make room for Seattle to sign Michael Robinson.
Robinson previously played for the San Francisco 49ers. He is 223 pounds, a versatile player who actually played quarterback in college at Penn State.
• Michael Robinson
NFL.com player profile
Schmitt played two seasons in Seattle after being drafted in the fifth round from West Virginia. He was tough and strong, but never seized the starting fullback role playing behind Leonard Weaver in 2008 and Justin Griffith in 2009. With Seattle shifting to an offense that does not emphasize the fullback as much, instead opting for two tight ends, he was a potential roster casualty.
Robinson is a big physical player and special-teams mainstay.
