Hope everyone had a safe Fourth of July.
Over the next couple of weeks, we'll have some legal developments to track from linebacker Leroy Hill and now running back Quinton Ganther.
But we'll also have a training camp to begin preparing for.
• Matt Hasselbeck not ready to be retired just yet
By Alex Marvez, FOXSports.com
An insightful look into the preparations for what will be a decisive season for Hasselbeck. He is at an age where quarterbacks can still be in their prime, but he has taken quite a drubbing over the past four seasons. Still, the Seahawks have made it very clear that he is the rudder to start next season.
• NFL confirms suspension of LenDale White
NFL.com
In an aside concerning White, I previously linked to a radio interview he conducted with a Nashville station in which he talked about his surprise at being released. At the beginning of that interview, one of the hosts talked about White being spotted in a local night spot. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but Aaron Levine of Q13 also reported White was seen out in Seattle the night before team meetings were scheduled on a Thursday. Friday is when White was released.
• This is old news as the Seahawks announced last week they signed Kevin Ellison, the safety they had claimed off of waivers from San Diego. I had several questions about this, so here's the explanation received as to the reason for the transactions.
When a team claims a player, it essentially inherits the contract that player signed with his previous team. In Ellison's case, it was his rookie deal with San Diego. The Seahawks wanted to alter that contract, the reason most likely to insert clauses providing some protection for the team if a condition or injury Ellison had before he came to the Seahawks -- in his case, most likely a knee injury -- were to end up sidelining him.
Seattle wanted him, the Seahawks just also wanted some protection if a pre-existing injury flared up.
