Former Husky Reggie Williams, among Seahawks cuts

Posted by Danny O'Neil

The Seahawks released receiver Reggie Williams Friday, ending his attempt to return to the NFL with his hometown franchise.

Williams was given a chance with the Seahawks after a three-day tryout in April. Williams was chosen No. 9 overall in 2004, the highest draft pick out of the University of Washington since Lincoln Kennedy was chosen with the ninth overall pick in 1993. Williams attended Lakes High School in Lakewood.

Williams played five seasons with Jacksonville, but was not with an NFL team last season.

Mike Williams, another former first-round choice at receiver, was similarly given a chance after a three-day tryout with Seattle and was more impressive over the previous two months.

Reggie was released along with Victor James, another receiver with the Seahawks.

The roster moves were necessary to make room for the signing of cornerback Walter Thurmond and defensive end E.J. Wilson, the team's two fourth-round draft picks. Seattle also announced the signing of safety Kam Chancellor, who had previously agreed to terms with the team.

Seattle now has six of its nine draft picks under contract.
