No. 111: Seahawks -- Walter Thurmond, Oregon CB
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Thurmond suffered a knee injury returning the opening kickoff against California last season and missed the rest of the season. That was the fourth game of the year.
Thurmond is 5 feet 11, 189 pounds.
He is an aggressive cover defender, and someone who can also serve as a return specialist. Had Thurmond been healthy his senior year, he would have been chosen in the first two rounds.
He is a press corner, and someone that fits with the indications that Seattle is going to use more man-to-man, bump-and-run coverage.
Update at 8:14 a.m.: Thurmond had no idea that his senior season was finished after he was tackled on the opening kickoff against Cal in October.
"I popped up and jogged off the field," Thurmond said in a conference call with Seattle reporters. "I couldn't even tell you that I tore three ligaments in my knee. I went to go see the trainers, they told me I sprained my PCL so obviously they knew the extent of the damage more than I did."
Thurmond suffered three torn ligaments in his knee, the ACL, MCL and PCL.
He said he's about seven months into his recovery.
"I'm running, cutting, doing all the DB drills right now," Thurmond said. "And I've just got to strengthen my quad and hamstrings some more to get that speed back."
Thurmond anticipates he will be 100 percent by the time training camp begins.
He was in Southern California -- the Pasadena area -- when he found out he got picked.
