Slow your roll on that Alex Brown talk
Posted by Danny O'Neil
So the Bears have a defensive end they don't appear to have much use for, and the Seahawks have a guard that they've decided doesn't fit the zone-blocking scheme they plan on running.
Time to make a deal, right? After all, if there's one thing Seattle needs, it's a pass rush. But there's more than one little problem with the idea the Seahawks would trade for Alex Brown. It's more like $5 million issues.
That's what Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports, and that's what I've heard, too, after poking around the Seahawks this evening.
See, Seattle already has a defensive end on the roster scheduled to pull down about that much in annual salary. His name is Patrick Kerney, and he had twice almost as many sacks as Brown did last year in Chicago.
Brown is two years younger, and he doesn't have Kerney's injury history, but Seattle isn't interested in adding him at the sticker price of $5 million.
So what happened here? Well, Chicago likely has an interest in guard Rob Sims, but they're not all that interested in forking over draft picks after last year's trade for that Jay Cutler guy.
But if they could acquire Sims for a player that's not in their plans like Brown, Chicago would have no problems with that. But under the current terms, that's not something Seattle's interested in latching on to.
• Chicago interested in Sims, Seattle not interested in Brown

Update at 11:44 p.m.: There was a mistake in the original posting, which operated off the statement Alex Brown had 2.5 sacks last season. That's wrong. He had six. He had 2.5 sacks his rookie season.
A reporter's job is to be factually accurate above all else, and when I fall short in that regard, it's important to have alert readers there to remind me.
