The Seahawks have traded Darryl Tapp to the Philadelphia Eagles for linebacker Chris Clemons and a fourth-round pick. The news was first reported by Jay Glazer of FOX Sports, confirmed by Darrl Tapp and then announced by the team.

It should be noted Clemons is a really a pass rusher, a hybrid linebacker/defensive end.

Tapp was a restricted free agent, who had signed his qualifying offer, it was announced on Monday.

Update at 4 p.m.: Tapp has confirmed that he was traded to Philadlephia. He heads out to Philadelphia on Wednesday morning to take a physical.

"I had no clue this was coming," Tapp said. "It kind of just happened. I ran across full wind of it yesterday, these last two days. It's just done."

Tapp said when he signed his one-year qualifying offer from the team, he did not know a trade was in the works. He said he planned to sign the qualifying offer regardless.

"I wasn't going to hold out," Tapp said. "I like being with my teammates. I wanted to work out."

So now that he's traded is he bitter?

"I'm happy to have a job, honestly," Tapp said. "There's a lot of turnover in the NFL each year. I'm happy to have another opportunity to play. I'm sad to be leaving Seattle. This is the team that gave me a chance for the past four years. The fans were awesome. It's a business. It's a part.of the business."

Tapp was recently married, and now he and his wife will leave for Philadelphia.

"I'm very excited," he said. "I have a job. I get an opportunity to play a game that I love to play. It's a brand new step for a lot of different reasons."

Tapp played four seasons for Seattle, which chose him in the second round of the 2006 draft. He had 2.5 sacks last season, but was one of Seattle's more consistent pass rushers. Coach Pete Carroll talked about using Tapp in the role of a roving pass rusher, the so-called "elephant" position. Tapp's trade becomes the most significant, and surprising, change Seattle has made this offseason.

Clemons is a seven-year veteran who has played for three franchises. He had a career-high eight sacks for the Raiders in 2007, but totaled seven sacks in the previous two seasons combined in Philadelphia.

Seattle now has an two fourth-round picks, but still is without a third-round selection.
