Tim Tebow schedules private workout with Seahawks

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is scheduled to hold a private workout with the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills, according to the NFL's official Web site. Tebow attended the NFL combine, but did not throw in front of scouts. He has sought to adjust his throwing motion, shortening his delivery. He will throw for scouts during Florida's pro day on March 17.

Last week, Sports Illustrated's Peter King told Mitch Levy of KJR 950 AM that Seattle would be the perfect landing spot for Tebow because he would have time to wait, watch and learn behind Matt Hasselbeck. It would also remove him from the pressure cooker of expectations both he and his team would face were he to be drafted by a franchise in the Southeast.

One of the unknowns in this situation is how Tebow would mesh with Seattle offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates. He's not a strong-armed, drop-back passer like Jay Cutler, whom Bates worked with so effectively in Denver. But before Denver, Bates worked under Jon Gruden in Tampa Bay from 2002 to 2004. One of Gruden's signatures as a coach was his ability to work with a broad range of quarterbacks. Rick Rich Gannon became an MVP under Gruden, and the Bucs won the Super Bowl with Brad Johnson under center.

Gruden has been considered a strong advocate for Tebow, and last Thursday spent the day tutoring Tebow, according to The Tampa Tribune.

"I love quarterbacks and today I had a blast. How can you not root for Tim Tebow? He's a courageous, competitive, play-making, undeniable force. I think he's going to be a great success."
-- Tim Tebow Jon Gruden to The Tampa Tribune, March 4

A tip of the cap to patroller for pointing out that I had attributed a quote about Tim Tebow to Tim Tebow. He was not referring to himself in the third person. That was Gruden talking. Apologies from a red-faced reporter.
