Good grief: USC tackle Charles Brown started out at tight end

USC tackle Charles Brown began as a tight end, but outgrew that position. He fits the mold of the athletic tackle that Seahawks new offensive line coach Alex Gibbs prefers.
In practice, it didn't take long to see his future would keep him closer to the line of scrimmage.
"I wasn't getting separation from the linebackers," Brown said.
Three weeks into his redshirt freshman season at USC, it was decision time.
"You can just tell when you're too heavy to catch balls," he said.
Now, Brown is among this year's crop of tackles, and while some wonder whether he's big enough to play the position, he fits the tackle prototype for Seahawks offensive line coach Alex Gibbs.
Brown said he was interviewed by Gibbs on Wednesday here in Indianapolis.
"He said I'd fit in well," Brown said, "I'd fit in real good."
Brown weighed 303 pounds at the scouting combine. His strength is pass protection, and he didn't give up a single sack as a senior. The last sack he allowed was early in his junior season when Oregon's Nick Reed -- who is now a Seahawk -- got a sack.
