Report: Seahawks targeting Pete Carroll, USC coach

Posted by Danny O'Neil

The Seahawks are targeting Pete Caroll, who is USC's head coach.

A few things to note here: Carroll has previously taken a look at NFL jobs in Washington, Atlanta and Miami so his interest in returning to the NFL would not be new.

Also, he is coming off a season in which USC's streak of seven successive seasons with 11 or more wins ended, the team went to the Emerald Bowl and there have been questions about NCAA violations.

Carroll has previous experience as an NFL head coach, serving one year with the Jets and three seasons with New England. He made the playoffs twice with the Patriots, but the team's record receded each of three successive seasons after he inherited a team coming off a Super Bowl appearance.

Update: The Seahawks are in fact targeting Carroll. According to the Los Angeles Times, Carroll was interviewed in Los Angeles this week.

Also, Carroll has reached out about assembling a coaching staff for the Seahawks gig, which included reaching out to UCLA defensive coordinator DeWayne Walker.
