Game thread: Detroit Lions at Seattle Seahawks, Nov. 8

Jordan Babineaux sacks Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford in the first quarter in which the lions had the ball for more than 12 minutes, the Seahawks for fewer than 3.

Matt Hasselbeck was intercepted on his first pass of the game, but completed his next 12 in a row and broke Dave Krieg's franchise record for completions in a Seahawks career. Krieg has 2,097.

Fourth quarter

Marcus Trufant intercepts his first pass of the season, with textbook coverage of the Lions' Calvin Johson. Seattle's ball at its own 40 with 4:34 left in the game.

What got into Seattle's return games in the second half? It's actually looked good. Justin Forsett just returned a kick 46 yards.

Largest comeback in Seahawks franchise history was 20 points. Seattle twice came back from an 18-point deficit to win. If Seattle holds on to beat the Lions, it will have overcome a 17-point deficit.

Third quarter

David Hawthorne intercepted his second pass of the game as quarterback Matthew Stafford continued to look like a rookie quarterback.

Seattle completes its comeback from a 17-point deficit with a 78-yard touchdown drive that included a defensive pass interference penalty, a reverse pass from Seneca Wallace to T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Seattle scored its second touchdown of the game on a pass.

Seattle 22, Detroit 17

Last week against Dallas, Seattle called a screen pass right into the teeth of a defense, which is the perfect play call to gouge them, but a Cowboys lineman (No. 72 I believe, but I'm going on memory) reached out and made a great play to defend the pass.

Well, Seattle called a screen into a blitz in the third quarter against the Lions, the result a 49-yard gain by Julius Jones that set up Olindo Mare's third field goal of the game.

Detroit 17, Seattle 16

Seattle punted for the first time all game in the third quarter. Usually that's a good thing. In this case, it's because Seattle was too busy giving the ball to Detroit on the Seahawks' half of the field in the first half.

Second quarter

Seattle moved the ball 65 yards in 1:11, driving to set up a field goal at the end of the half to cut the deficit to four points.

Detroit 17, Seattle 13

Matt Hasselbeck's 12th completion of the game set a franchise record for career completions, breaking Dave Krieg's previous mark of 2,096 as a Seahawk. Hasselbeck completed 15 in a row after he was picked off on his first attempt of the game.

LB David Hawthorne intercepts a third-down pass from Matthew Stafford, his second interception of the season, which means that the guy who began this season as a backup linebacker now has as many interceptions as the entire secondary combined.

Detroit 17, Seattle 10

Personal foul against Roy Lewis gives Detroit the ball at the Seattle 47, the fourth consecutive possession Detroit has begun on the Seahawks half of the field.

Seattle's initial first down of the game occurred on a fumble recovery as T.J. Houshmandzadeh lost the ball, but Max Unger recovered it. Seattle almost doubled its offensive output in the first quarter on this drive, and scored on a 3-yard rush by Julius Jones.

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has completed 10 consecutive passes since being picked off on his first attempt of the game.

Detroit 17, Seattle 7

First quarter

For the third time in eight games this season Seattle has given up 10 or more points in the first quarter. The 17 points Seattle allowed in the opening period is the most it has given up in any quarter this season. All 17 of those points were scored off drives that began in Seattle's half of the field.

Through three possessions, Seattle has run six plays: The result is three running plays for a net loss of 2 yards, a lost fumble, an interception and a turnover on downs.

Two plays, two turnovers for the Seahawks. Fullback Justin Griffith fumbled away the ball at the Seattle 29.

Johnson beat single coverage deep for a 29-yard touchdown pass. Not a shock, right? Calvin Johnson is a big, strong elite receiver. Except it was Bryant Johnson, who made a diving reception in the corner of the end zone after creating space with cornerback Ken Lucas. Detroit has scored its past two touchdowns off possessions that began in Seattle's half of the field.

Detroit 14, Seattle

Seattle has allowed six touchdowns at home this season. Three of those were scored off drives that began on the Seahawks' half of the field. T.J. Houshmandzadeh lost a fumble in the third quarter, which the Bears scored off of. Then came Arizona recovering a pooched kick on in the first quarter in Week 6. Now, Matt Hasselbeck's first pass of the game was intercepted by Louis Delmas. The Lions got the ball at Seattle's 2-yard line and after a 5-yard penalty scored on a 7-yard pass from Matthew Stafford to tight end Brandon Pettigrew.

Detroit 7, Seattle 0

Raise your hand if you've seen this before, the opposing offense progressing down the field at a methodical pace, converting third downs like it's going out of style. It's one thing when it's Indianapolis or Arizona. Detroit converted its first two third downs on the drive and very nearly converted a third-and-20 only to hurry up and go for it on fourth-and-1. The Seahawks couldn't stop that even with 12 men on the field.

Matthew Stafford was 6-for-7 passing on that drive for 55 yards, and the Lions held the ball for 8:28 only to come up scoreless when Jason Hanson's kick ricocheted off the right upright.

Marcus Trufant starts the game at left cornerback, only change in Seattle's lineup. Seattle gets penetration on first play from scrimmage, defensive tackle Brandon Mebane tackling Kevin Smith in the backfield.
