Wednesday's medical charts
Posted by Danny O'Neil
"After much deliberation and evaluation and soul searching between the team, the medical staff and Walter Jones," coach Jim Mora said. "It has been determined that the best thing to do for Walter, for this football team and for his future is to put him on injured reserve. So we're going to do that today. We're going to shut him down. We're going to let him heal up, have whatever procedures our medical staff feels is necessary and then re-evaluate early next year.
"I will say this, Walter has done everything that is humanly possible to try and get back and help this football team. He has been amazing in his attitude and his approach to this. His determination to get back on the football field has never been in question, but it's just not happening. It's just not happening.
"That's just the way it is so that move will be made today."
Linebacker Lofa Tatupu is in Alabama being evaluated by Dr. James Andrews. Whether he will need surgery will be determined today.
"They are determining the correct course of action in consultation with our doctors so by the end of today [Wednesday] we should be able to tell you something definitive in terms of what the future holds for Lofa with regards to this year," Mora said.
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's ribs are sore, and he will not practice Wednesday just as he did not practice Monday, but his status for this week's game is not in doubt. He is expected to play at Dallas on Sunday.
"We're going to give him today to rest and recover," Mora said. "But it is not anything that will keep him from playing Sunday at full strength."
Tackle Sean Locklear may practice later this week, however, he is not expected to play Sunday, Mora said. Damion McIntosh is the expected starter at left tackle for Seattle.
In roster news: Seattle moved Louis Rankin from the practice squad to the 53-man active roster and added a linebacker, Anthony Heygood, to the practice squad.
