Left tackle Walter Jones out until after the bye
Posted by By Danny O'Neil
Coach Jim Mora said left tackle Walter Jones will not practice this week, and is not expected to until after Seattle's bye on Oct. 25.
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is expected to practice Wednesday, though. Hasselbeck was in pain after a workout Monday, and was in excruciating pain afterward, according to Mora. Hasselbeck returned Tuesday, received treatment and completed his workout. He will participate in the individual drills Wednesday and then potentially proceed.

"If he can keep pushing, he'll keep pushing," Mora said of Hasselbeck. "The guy is without question doing everything possible to get out on the football field.
"Let's keep our fingers crossed and see how it goes today with him."
As for the situation at tackle, Mora was asked about the possibility of signing a veteran tackle with Jones' return in doubt.
"I don't know if there's anyone that we can go get," Mora said. "Our personnel department, they study these guys and as coaches we study 'em. It's not, 'Naaah, we don't have time to do that.' We make time. If there's a guy we need to find out about, we make time to study them. We do cut-up tapes, we talk to people, we talk to old coaches. And then you say, 'OK, is this the right guy?' And if he is, you try to bring him in, if he's not, you don't.
"It's not always as cut and dried as you think. There's this guy out there, why don't you sign him. Well, you know, we looked at that. We don't ignore anything. We try to look at everything and make the best decision."
So, the tackle situation Seattle has right now with Brandon Frye and Ray Willis on the active roster and Kyle Williams and Na'Shan Goddard on the practice squad is better than something available on the open market?
"If we didn't see it as our best solution then we would make a move," Mora said. "If there was a better solution then we would. This is the solution we have and we're going to make it work. Brandon Frye, he's getting better. Like I said, he struggled a little bit. He struggled on Sunday. We're going to do things to help him and he's going to keep getting better because of the kind of work ethic and competitiveness he has."
Has Seattle set a deadline for when Jones must return by before he is placed on injured reserve, opening a roster spot?
"Yeah, but it's not firm," Mora said. "We're talking about a Hall of Famer, and there's a lot of factors that go into it. What's best for the team? What kind of respect do you show Walter? If Walter can get back, man, how long do we wait for him? What if we IR'd and then two weeks later he's ready to go, would you look back and just be sick about it. It's a puzzle. It's a puzzle, and we talk about it every day."
