Walter Jones to sit out practices

Posted by Danny O'Neil

  • Walter Jones will not practice Wednesday, coach Jim Mora said, taking time off to help his knee recover. Jones has undergone two surgeries in the previous 10 months, and he has practiced the past two weeks, but has yet to play in a game this season.

  • Cornerback Josh Wilson will practice to a limited extent, which is a surprise since he sat out one week with a high ankle sprain.

"Initially we had said he was going to be out quite a while," Mora said. "He is really coming along well."

  • Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck? "Matt is coming along," Mora said. "And making progress. I saw him [Tuesday] afternoon and he felt good. The hold up quite simply with Matt is he can't run yet and when he takes deep breaths there's pain. So when you're a quarterback, you have to run a little bit and in a game you have to take deep breaths. So that's the hold-up there."
  • Cornerback Jordan Babineaux has a sore neck and is not expected to practice Wednesday, but coach Jim Mora said he should be ready to play Sunday.
  • Tackle Brandon Frye has a groin injury that will prevent him from practicing, but the hope is he will return to practice Thursday and be OK to play.
  • Guard Rob Sims will not practice Wednesday. "[Thursday] is kind of a critical day for him, to see where he is."
  • Fullback Justin Griffith is making progress, and won't practice Wednesday, probably Thursday. "Friday at the very latest," Mora said.

  • There was also a more complete update on cornerback Marcus Trufant. He is on the Physically Unable to Perform list, ineligible to play until after the Seahawks' bye on Oct. 25. Does it look like he's be able to play after that, namely the Nov. 1 game at Dallas? "It looks like it," Mora said. "But once again, I hate to even speculate because I don't want to be misleading. I'm very hopeful. The signs point in the direction that yes, he will be back, but we'll see."

    Practice squad updates

  • RB Louis Rankin has replaced Devin Moore at running back; C/G Brian De La Puente is back on the roster for the third time this season, this time replacing wide receiver Logan Payne. Tackle Na'Shan Goddard replaces linebacker Thomas Williams on the practice squad. The additions of De La Puente and Goddard are to address concerns of depth on the line.
