No Bear market for Houshmandzadeh's services

Houshmandzadeh cites Bears lack of interest
By Vaughn McClure, The Chicago Tribune

Seahawks president Tim Ruskell shares history with Bears general manager Jerry Angelo, having worked in Tampa Bay when Angelo was a central figure in the Bucs front office.

But Ruskell came to a very different conclusion regarding T.J. Houshmandzadeh during free agency this season.

The Seahawks signed Houshmandzadeh to a five-year contract that will pay Houshmandzadeh at least $15 million and as much as $40 million.

"Houshmandzadeh is a fine receiver,'' Angelo said in March, according to the Chicago Tribune. "Would we have entertained him? Yes, but we wanted to see what his marketplace was. In this case, we felt like it was an exorbitant amount of money. Remember, he was a No. 2 in Cincinnati. That's not to say that what Seattle did wasn't right for them; their situation is different in my mind than ours.

"They had an inordinate amount of injuries with receivers and they felt like they needed to get somebody that was established and healthy."

Well, what did Houshmandzadeh think of all that? He was asked during a teleconference with Chicago reporters on Wednesday.

"The Bears ain't holler at me,'' he said. "Jerry Angelo probably didn't even think I could play. So I'm going to show him Sunday."

Houshmandzadeh did not practice Wednesday, but is expected to be ready to play Sunday.
