The (exhaustive) injury report
Posted by Danny O'neil
"OK, I thought what we could do is get the injury stuff out of the way," he said, "and then if we have any time left for questions, we can get to that."
Mora talked about injuries for the next 2 minutes, 40 seconds without interruption. He listed two starters who are definitely out: tackle Sean Locklear and cornerback Josh Wilson. He metioned three players who may be back: center Chris Spencer, tackle Walter Jones and receiver Deion Branch. And most concerning were the two starters whose status remains a big mystery: quarterback Matt Hasselbeck and linebacker Lofa Tatupu. Neither practiced Wednesday, but neither has been ruled out for Sunday's game.
Once Mora finished his inventory of Seattle's injuries, he switched roles from registered nurse to motivational speaker.
"You gotta' think about one thing and that's getting ready to win on Sunday," he said when asked if the situation was overwhelming.
The injury summation is something Mora does to fulfill the league's instructions to provide information publicly.
"You can't waste 1 minute other than [that]," he said. "Can't even think about it, can't do it, don't have time, don't have room in my brain."
Mora began Wednesday as a drill sergeant administering marching orders that included no time for wringing of hands or wailing about injuries. He saw his team in the morning and did his best to place a red-hot firepoker of motivation upon the hindparts of those players expected to step up for the injured Seahawks.
"I don't look out here and I don't see starters and I don't see backups," Mora said. "I see football players - give me 45 football players on Sunday at 1:05 and let's go."
Unfortunately, Seattle may not have much more than those 45 players available. The Seahawks made no roster moves on Tuesday, a big reason being that while Seattle finished Sunday's game with 10 starters out because of injury, no one has suffered a season-ending injury.
Adding a veteran would require a subtraction from the roster.
"We're going to weather the storm with the guys we've got," Mora said. "We're going to gradually start getting guys back and we're going to get back to full strength and until we do, we just go fight and go to battle with who we've got."
Out T Sean Locklear (ankle), CB Josh Wilson (ankle) and LB Leroy Hill (groin).
