Leroy Hill's groin injury more serious than first disclosed

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Seahawks linebacker Leroy Hill will miss more than just a couple of weeks because of the groin injury he suffered in the first quarter of Sunday's game. Coach Jim Mora said Hill won't be back until after the team's bye, which is on Oct. 25.

"It appears he has a pretty significant groin injury," Mora said.

Is it significant enough to warrant surgery?

"Potentially," Mora said, "potentially.

What is the nature of the injury?

"There's a slight tear or some type of pull off the bone of one of the tendons," Mora said. "It's similar to a lot of injury that a lot of hockey players get."

Hill suffered the injury when he missed an attempted tackle of Rams running back Steven Jackson in the first quarter.

Hill will be replaced by Will Herring in the starting lineup.

  • Left tackle Walter Jones is expected to get some practice time on Wednesday, but his status for Sunday's game is undecided.

  • Center Chris Spencer is expected to return to practice on Thursday, his first practice since suffering a slightly torn quadriceps in the Seahawks' second exhibition game.

  • Middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu will not practice Wednesday, but is expected to be ready for Sunday's game.

  • Wide receiver Deion Branch is not expected for practice Wednesday, but should be on the field later this week.

  • Seattle made two changes to its practice squad this week. First, Brian De La Puente replaces C Blake Schlueter and then Derek Walker replaces S Jamar Adams.
