Leroy Hill pleading not guilty to marijuana possession
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Leroy Hill has pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge he is facing in Georgia after his January arrest in which marijuana was found in the car he was driving.
Reza Sedghi, who is representing Hill, said the arraignment in the case will be waived. It was scheduled for Aug. 31.
Sedghi said no date for a trial is set. Most likely it would take place in October or November, possibly as late as December. Sedghi said he doesn't foresee a situation in which Hill would have to miss a game to attend the trial.
Hill was arrested after he was observed asleep at a traffic intersection by a motorist who called 911. Hill was not asleep when contacted by the arresting officer, who subsequently found marijuana in a backpack found in Hill's car.
Hill also received a traffic citation for a tail light and a seat-belt violation.
Sedghi said the main issue of the case is knowledge, namely Hill had no knowledge there was marijuana inside the backpack in his car. Sedghi also pointed out Hill was not tested for marijuana use.
Hill could face discipline from the NFL for the incident, and the league has the option of imposing discipline before the resolution of the case, but there has been no indication yet whether the league plans to do so.
