Seahawks, Aaron Curry discussions to pick up Monday

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Andy Ross, the agent who represents linebacker Aaron Curry, said it looks like Seattle is ready to talk on Monday.

First-round agreements are starting to roll in. As of last week, only two first-round picks were signed. Well, center Alex Mack has signed with Cleveland, and Ziggy Hood -- the No. 32 player picked -- reached an agreement with Pittsburgh. Hood is also represented by Ross.

The challenge Seattle will face in negotiations with Curry is the deal signed by Mark Sanchez, the quarterback chosen fifth overall. Sanchez signed a five-year contract that will pay him at least $28 million in guaranteed money and could total up to as much as $50.5 million, according to this breakdown provided by the New York Daily News.

The total of guaranteed money is a significant improvement from the $22 million in guaranteed money the No. 5 pick in the 2008 draft -- Glenn Dorsey -- received from the Kansas City Chiefs.

On the flip side, quarterbacks can command a premium in contract terms, but Sanchez's contract is going to be a reference point for Curry's side in negotiations, no doubt about that.
