Ken Lucas turned down $3.3 million reasons to be in Seattle

Posted by Danny O'Neil

Salary Ken Lucas was originally scheduled to make in 2009 -- $5.6 million. Salary Lucas will make in 2009 in Seattle -- $2.3 million. Not playing 2009 in Detroit -- Priceless. Well, not really. It may have cost Lucas as much as $3.3 million in salary. There were reports that Carolina was looking to trade Lucas to Detroit. But according to Adam Schefter on NFL.com, Lucas made it clear he didn't want to play for the Lions. So instead of getting traded, Lucas got caught and the base salary of $5.6 million for 2009 was gone. Lucas was a free agent. Now, he may have thought he was going to get a bigger deal as an unrestricted free agent. He didn't. According to the NFL Players Association database, Lucas signed a one-year contract with a base salary of $2.3 million. That database does not include bonus money, but Lucas lost $3.3 million in salary from what he was scheduled to make. But hey, at least he doesn't have to play in Detroit.
