Seahawks reportedly will name Pat Ruel offensive-line coach
Pat Ruel, Carroll's offensive-line coach the previous five seasons at USC, is expected to join the Seahawks' staff, replacing Alex Gibbs, who abruptly retired Saturday. Ruel's addition was first reported by ESPN on Sunday and has not been announced by the team.

Pete Carroll has a number of rules that he's set within the Seattle Seahawks franchise.
Be early. No whining. Things like that.
He's about to add a new Ruel. A Golden Ruel, in fact.
Ruel, whose given name is Golden, joined Carroll's staff at USC in 2005, and the Trojans used a scheme based on the same zone-blocking principles Gibbs has coached so well.
When Carroll accepted the Seahawks job in January, reports in Los Angeles stated Ruel would be part of his staff in Seattle. He wasn't. Ruel most recently was coaching with the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL.
Ruel has coached at eight different colleges, including spending four seasons at Washington State starting in 1978. The Seahawks would be the fifth NFL franchise he has worked for.
He walks into a situation in Seattle where the offensive line — an increasingly problematic area the past four seasons — has been destabilized yet again.
Russell Okung, whom Seattle drafted with the sixth overall pick to end the uncertainty at left tackle, is out with a high ankle sprain and not expected to play in Sunday's season opener. Chester Pitts, recovering from knee surgery, has practiced but did not play in any of the exhibition games. Stacy Andrews was just acquired from Philadelphia. So with the opener against San Francisco just one week away, Seattle is once again facing a huge question of who will play left tackle. Sound familiar?
