Seahawks pick OT Russell Okung with first draft choice
The Seattle Seahawks chose offensive tackle Russell Okung of Oklahoma State with the No. 6 pick of the NFL draft Thursday.

RENTON — The Seattle Seahawks chose offensive tackle Russell Okung of Oklahoma State with the No. 6 pick of the NFL draft Thursday.
Seattle can only hope it turns out as well as the last time they chose an offensive tackle No. 6 overall. That was 1997 when Seattle chose Walter Jones with the sixth pick.
"I feel so great, words can't describe it," Okung said when interviewed by the NFL Network after his selection.
The Seahawks have not used the word "rebuilding" after coach Pete Carroll's hiring, but his first draft choice was used on a tackle he hopes will be part of the foundation for this franchise.
Just one month ago, Okung was considered the top offensive lineman available in the draft. He wound up being the second tackle chosen after Washington took Oklahoma tackle Trent Williams with the fourth pick.
The Kansas City Chiefs chose Tennessee safety Eric Berry No. 5, clearing the way for Seattle to take Okung.
Jones has not officially retired, but the Seahawks are planning as if he will not be able to return. That left a vacancy at a position considered one of the most important in today's NFL.
Okung will become the presumptive starter at left tackle under Carroll.
