NFL: Colts rally past Jaguars 35-31, remain undefeated

Peyton Manning threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns, including a 65-yarder to Reggie Wayne to go ahead for good, and the Colts beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-31 Thursday night to improve to 14-0 for the first time in franchise history.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Peyton Manning completed every pass early and one big one late, exactly what the Indianapolis Colts needed to stay unbeaten.

Manning threw for 308 yards and four touchdowns, including a 65-yarder to Reggie Wayne to go ahead for good, and the Colts beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 35-31 Thursday night to improve to 14-0 for the first time in franchise history.

The wild game on a cool night included 714 yards, 43 first downs, 10 lead changes, six punts, several big plays and just two turnovers.

"This was an old-time shootout at the OK Corral," Colts coach Jim Caldwell said.

Jacksonville had a chance to win it in the closing minutes, but David Garrard overthrew Mike Thomas on a third-and-10 play with about a minute to play. Jacob Lacey intercepted the ball, and the Colts ran out the clock.

Indianapolis extended its NFL-record winning streak in the regular season to 23 and became the third 14-0 team in league history, joining the 1972 Miami Dolphins and 2007 New England Patriots. New Orleans can join the list with a victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night.

The Jaguars (7-7) lost for the third time in four games and no longer control their fate in the AFC wild-card race.

Notes

• The Washington Redskins brought back a familiar name and dusted off a long-unused title in a major shake-up, the first of many anticipated changes resulting from a losing season. Bruce Allen, son of late Redskins Hall of Fame coach George Allen, is the team's new general manager.

• New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez practiced for the second straight day and took 75 percent of the snaps, but a patient coach Rex Ryan remained undecided on his starter for the game against the Atlanta Falcons.

• Migraine headaches kept Minnesota receiver Percy Harvin out of practice again, increasing the possibility he will miss a second straight game when the Vikings play at Carolina.

• New York Giants center Shaun O'Hara and Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Trent Cole were fined $15,000 by the NFL for a scuffle at the end of Sunday's game at Giants Stadium. O'Hara plans to appeal. Tackle Kareem McKenzie and cornerback Corey Webster missed the Giants' practice with knee injuries.

Tom Brady is practicing again with the New England Patriots. The quarterback had limited participation after sitting out Wednesday's workout while nursing rib and finger problems.

• The St. Louis Rams canceled practice due to an undisclosed number of swine-flu cases on the team, three days before a home game against the Houston Texans.

• Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarcus Ware was back at practice, though the team was unclear about his status for Saturday night's game at New Orleans.

• A judge in Jacksonville, Fla., handed down a life sentence for Tyrone Hartsfield, 33, convicted of attempted first-degree murder in the shooting of former Jaguars lineman Richard Collier.

• The San Diego Chargers say enough tickets have been sold to lift the television blackout for Sunday's game against Cincinnati.

• A Kansas City Chiefs home game is being blacked out locally for the first time since 1990 after the team failed to sell enough tickets for Sunday's game against Cleveland.
