Brett Favre has masterful performance against Seahawks

There aren't many superlatives left to drape across a career that began in 1991. But to say he posted his highest completion percentage (88.0) of any game is really saying something — and it doesn't say much for Seattle's defense.

MINNEAPOLIS — The first question to Brett Favre accomplished something Seattle's defense failed to do at most any point in Sunday's game.

It puzzled him.

After completing 22 of 25 attempts and throwing scoring passes to four teammates, Favre was asked if it was one of the most efficient games of his career.

"I don't know," he said. "I guess definitely this year, but it's hard to think back to all of the games I've played."

There aren't many superlatives left to drape across a career that began in 1991. But to say he posted his highest completion percentage (88.0) of any game is really saying something — and it doesn't say much for Seattle's defense.

"The guy is remarkable," coach Jim Mora said, "but we have to play better."

Seattle did play better for the first quarter Sunday, but deteriorated from there. The Seahawks sacked Favre twice in the first quarter — one by Darryl Tapp, the other by Cory Redding, who got his first sack in a regular-season game as a Seahawk.

The Seahawks didn't sack Favre again.

"We couldn't get to him," Mora said, "which was reflected in his success."

Seattle held Minnesota scoreless in the first quarter. But in the second period, Minnesota's offensive playmakers allowed the Vikings to pull away.

Adrian Peterson got rolling, rushing for 29 of his 82 yards in the second quarter. Percy Harvin caught three passes, including a 23-yard touchdown for the game's first score.

Vikings 6-foot-4 receiver Sidney Rice jumped out in the third quarter, leaping over Jordan Babineaux and Marcus Trufant for a 7-yard touchdown that put the Vikings ahead 28-0.

Was it the most complete offense Seattle has faced this season?

"They beat us like they were," safety Deon Grant said. "You have to give them their credit. They showed us they were a complete team."

Favre's last pass was the 7-yard lob to Rice. He was relieved by Tarvaris Jackson for the final quarter.

Favre entered as the league's highest-rated passer at 107.5, and he improved on that. He finished with a quarterback rating of 141.7. A perfect rating is 158.3.

A year ago, Seattle faced Favre and the Jets at Qwest Field. He was picked off twice and finished with a rating of 48.7, playing despite a biceps tendon injury that required offseason surgery. The passer Seattle faced in Minnesota looked nothing like the one in the Jets' pocket last season.

"He's not the same guy," Mora said. "He's a different player."

When Mora saw Favre on the field after the game, he repeated something he's been saying to Favre for years now.

"I said, 'Retire. Please,' " Mora said. "He said, 'You've said that to me for about eight years.' "

Mora informed him he was going to keep saying it. But judging by the way Favre played Sunday, he doesn't look like he's ready to quit.
