NFL | Browns make QB Brady Quinn starter

Benched by Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini just 2-1/2 games and 69 pass attempts into the season, Brady Quinn will start Monday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens.

BEREA, Ohio — Brady Quinn and the Cleveland Browns are right back where they started.

Benched by coach Eric Mangini just 2 ½ games and 69 pass attempts into the season, Quinn will start Monday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens, the team he was facing on Sept. 27 when the former Notre Dame star was yanked at halftime.

Quinn's got his second chance. Now he must make the most of it.

"I'm excited to play," he said. "I'm excited to be part of Monday night."

Quinn never worried about getting another opportunity. He was confident it would come. Patience is the one thing he has mastered during his short pro career.

Mangini's decision to switch back from Derek Anderson to Quinn wasn't met with overwhelming support in Cleveland's locker room. Several Browns players said they were unaware of Quinn's return to the top of the depth chart.

With his team at 1-7 and showing little progress amid growing speculation about his future, Mangini may as well give Quinn another look to see if he can get things going. Quinn can't do any worse than Anderson, who was a disaster in five starts.

Notes

• The Buffalo Bills are going back to quarterback Trent Edwards, who will start against Tennessee this weekend after missing two games with a concussion. Also, receiver Terrell Owens missed practice because of a strained hip.

• Linebacker Aaron Kampman does not blame the Green Bay Packers' coaches and medical staff for him playing most of Sunday's game with a head injury.

• Center Andre Gurode (ankle) and safety Ken Hamlin (groin) were held out of the Dallas Cowboys' practice.

• New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross practiced for the first time since pulling his left hamstring in training camp in August.

• The latest injury Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre must fight to maintain his record durability streak is a pulled groin muscle. Back from his bye week, Favre said he believes he will be fine.

• Arizona wide receiver Anquan Boldin said he's "moved on" after Sunday's critical comments directed at coach Ken Whisenhunt and his staff for not playing him. Boldin said he has no regrets about those comments and was a full participant at practice.

• Still feeling the effects of a concussion, Redskins running back Clinton Portis was hardly his loquacious self when he met with coach Jim Zorn and probably will miss this weekend's game against the Denver Broncos.

• The beleaguered offense of the Kansas City Chiefs took another hit when right guard Mike Goff went on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.

• Miami linebacker Joey Porter (hamstring) and guard Justin Smiley (shoulder) missed the Dolphins' practice.

• Atlanta Falcons receiver Brian Finneran (left knee) did some light running but skipped practice. The Falcons also were without starting tackle Sam Baker (left ankle).

• San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Isaac Bruce rolled his ankle in practice and is questionable for tonight's game against the Chicago Bears.

• Running back LaDainian Tomlinson (hip) and tight end Antonio Gates (foot) were among six San Diego Chargers missing practice due to injuries.

• Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Joselio Hanson was suspended four games by the NFL for violating the league's drug policy. Hanson's attorney said Hanson did not use steroids but tested positive for a diuretic after last year's NFC title game against Arizona.
