NFL | Raiders coach Tom Cable has talked to Al Davis about allegations
Embattled Raiders coach Tom Cable said Wednesday he and managing general partner Al Davis discussed the allegations made in an ESPN story about Cable having a history of physically abusing women.
Embattled Raiders coach Tom Cable said Wednesday he and managing general partner Al Davis discussed the allegations made in an ESPN story about Cable having a history of physically abusing women.
The meeting came on the heels of the Raiders issuing a statement Monday afternoon saying a "serious evaluation" of the matter would be undertaken.
"Al and I have spoken," Cable said. "What we talked about is between us, and we'll keep it that way."
He also said he expects to be the Raiders coach the second half of the season. However, he did not receive an assurance from Davis during their discussion.
"We didn't even talk about that," Cable said. "We talked about, like you're supposed to, the team, personnel moves, the second half and upcoming [games]. Those are not issues for us to discuss. There's no need to right now. Right now, it's about trying to turn it around and get us on track."
A league spokesman said the NFL is investigating the matter of Cable being accused by his first wife and a recent girlfriend of physical abuse. Cable said he slapped his first wife more than 20 years ago but has not touched a woman in an inappropriate manner since.
Rivers-Manning: first showdown
SAN DIEGO — When Eli Manning and Philip Rivers play at Giants Stadium on Sunday, it'll be the first matchup between the two quarterbacks who were swapped for each other during the first round of the 2004 draft.
Manning preferred the Giants to the Chargers, who took him anyway with the No. 1 pick, then dealt him to New York for Rivers and a handful of picks.
Two years ago, Manning led the Giants to a Super Bowl victory.
"I don't have any regrets," he said.
Rivers said he's happy the Chargers acquired him and two future Pro Bowlers — outside linebacker Shawne Merriman and kicker Nate Kaeding.

"I think I like it here a whole lot better," Rivers said. "It certainly fits me out here."
Notes
• Detroit running back Kevin Smith missed practice after aggravating a shoulder injury in the Lions' loss to St. Louis. Quarterback Matthew Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson were limited in practice, both with right-knee injuries.
• Steve Slaton became a key to Houston's offense as a rookie last year when he ran for a franchise-record 1,282 yards. This season he's tied for the NFL lead in lost fumbles with five, and his job as a starter is in jeopardy after Ryan Moats had a huge day filling in for him. Coach Gary Kubiak won't say who will start in Sunday's key division matchup at Indianapolis.
• Brian Westbrook is set to return from his latest injury when the Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys in a matchup of the top two teams in the NFC East on Sunday. Westbrook missed the Eagles' rout of the Giants last week with a concussion suffered a week earlier. Westbrook practiced Wednesday for the first time since the injury.
• Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder returned to practice but was limited after missing one game with a shoulder injury.
• The unbeaten Colts have lost starting linebacker Tyjuan Hagler for the rest of the season with a ruptured biceps.
• Jarrad Page, a three-year starter at free safety, has been placed on injured reserve by the Kansas City Chiefs.
