Seahawks' Chris Spencer out 4 to 6 weeks with injury

Center suffered torn quadriceps muscle in Saturday's exhibition against Denver, will miss start of regular season.

Center Chris Spencer has suffered a slight tear of his quadriceps muscle and is not expected to be ready for the regular-season opener next month.

"I don't want to put a timetable on it," coach Jim Mora said, "but he won't be back soon ... it's not going to be two weeks. It's going to be into the season."

Spencer suffered the injury at the end of the second quarter in Saturday's exhibition game against Denver. Spencer is Seattle's starting center, and a first-round draft pick in 2005.

With Spencer out, the Seahawks face a choice in the middle of their line. Mora said the team is leaning toward starting Steve Vallos, a third-year player who became the starting center after Spencer's injury last season. That would leave Mansfield Wrotto and rookie Max Unger competing for the right guard spot. Unger played center at Oregon so he could be a consideration in the middle.

Notes

• DT Craig Terrill suffered a back contusion in Saturday's game. It's questionable whether he will practice today.

• LB Aaron Curry (groin), DE Lawrence Jackson (groin) and WR Nate Burleson (hamstring) are all expected to practice today. All three sat out Saturday's exhibition game against Denver.

• CB Marcus Trufant has not passed his physical because of a disk injury to his back, and while he won't play in Saturday's exhibition game, Mora left open the possibility he could appear on the practice field this week.
