Seahawks' Leroy Hill to plead not guilty
Linebacker's attorney said he'll argue Hill had no knowledge of marijuana found in car in January.
Seattle Times staff reporter
RENTON — Linebacker Leroy Hill will plead not guilty to a misdemeanor charge for marijuana possession and will waive the arraignment scheduled for Aug. 31 in Georgia, according to his attorney.
Reza Sedghi, who is representing Hill, said no trial date has been set, but the main issue will be Hill had no knowledge of the marijuana an officer found in the bookbag in Hill's car in Atlanta in January.
Hill was observed asleep at an intersection by another motorist, who called 911. The responding officer pulled over Hill, and while searching the car, found a small bag of marijuana contained in the backpack.
Hill also received a traffic citation for a taillight and a seat-belt violation. Hill was not arrested for suspicion that he was driving while under the influence.
Hill could face discipline from the NFL for the incident, and the league has the option of imposing discipline before the resolution of the case. There has been no indication whether the league plans to do so.
