Seahawks Camp | Day 16 highlights
Hass-le-free morning QB Matt Hasselbeck got a break on Tuesday morning, his first practice off since training camp began on July 31. Hasselbeck returned to practice...
5 questions with ...
John CarlsonTE, 6-5, 251, Age: 25
Carlson was chosen with the 38th pick of the 2008 draft, the second-highest pick Seattle has ever used on a tight end. Carlson rewarded that investment by catching 55 passes as a rookie, a record for any tight end in franchise history.
Seattle Times: What's the worst job you've ever held?
Carlson: Well, I haven't had too many jobs since I've spent so much time playing sports. But I used to do yard work, and there was one job where I had a whole semi-load of mulch and I moved it all. I didn't hate it, but it was hard.
ST: Who was on the first poster you put up on your wall?
Carlson: Michael Jordan.
ST: So basketball was your first love, then?
Carlson: Yeah. I was a basketball coach's kid, so I was in the gym all the time. I just gravitated to it.
ST: When did you realize that football might be the path you followed?
Carlson: Well, it was ninth grade, and I was on the varsity football team. It kind of became clear my body type probably fit better at that sport.
ST: You probably made the right call on that one.
Carlson: Yeah. I played power forward or center. You don't see whole lot of 6-5 guys sticking at that position.

Hass-le-free morning
QB Matt Hasselbeck got a break on Tuesday morning, his first practice off since training camp began on July 31. Hasselbeck returned to practice during the evening workout at Husky Stadium.
Curry catching on
Aaron Curry leapt high to intercept a pass from Seneca Wallace during the morning practice. Curry also did some work with the defensive line and coach Dan Quinn, showing that the handful of plays where he lined up as defensive end in Saturday's exhibition game are just the start of seeing if Curry can line up with his hand down.
Coaching credentials
A pair of former NFL coaches were at practice. Steve Mariucci was at the morning practice. When Mariucci was head coach in San Francisco, Greg Knapp and Jim Mora served as his coordinators. Mora's father, Jim E. Mora, attended the evening practice.
