Offensive lineman Womack signs with Browns

"Pork Chop" started at right guard most of last season

Seattle Times staff reporter

The Seahawks' menu of backups along the offensive line just got lighter.

Actually, 328 pounds lighter to be exact. Floyd Womack — the versatile lineman known by the nickname Pork Chop — reached an agreement to sign with the Cleveland Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Womack's agent could not be reached for confirmation of the deal.

Womack, 30, played the past eight seasons with Seattle, playing both tackle and guard, but had difficulty staying healthy. He had to earn a roster spot in training camp last season, but moved into the starting lineup after right guard Rob Sims suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the season-opener.

Seattle returns all of its starting lineman from last season and already re-signed Ray Willis in free agency. Retaining Willis was the Seahawks' top priority along the offensive line this offseason.

The Hawks have an O line plan. Prepare for a nice surprise. I have no idea what it will be, but I sense some toughness is coming.  Posted on March 14, 2009 at 10:10 AM by backspin. Jump to comment
