Seahawks Notebook | Julius Jones quickly fallen off pace to stay with brother, Thomas

RENTON — Two seasons ago, Thomas and Julius Jones became the first brothers to rush for more than 1,000 yards in the same NFL season.

Thomas has already surpassed that mark this season, gaining 1,222 yards in 14 games for the New York Jets and earning a spot as a starter in the Pro Bowl.

Up until five games ago, Julius was on pace to reach 1,000 yards, too. He rushed for 597 yards in the first nine games, but has not been used nearly as much since then. He didn't even play in Seattle's loss to New England.

"Some of that is not his problem," coach Mike Holmgren said. "It's how he's been used."

Maurice Morris has started three of the past four games and ran effectively in those games, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. He is expected to start again Sunday against the Jets.

Holmgren said he called a meeting with the team's running backs last week and talked to them about the workload. He pointed out that T.J. Duckett probably hasn't gotten enough carries, either.

"Next season that will kind of sort itself out," Holmgren said. "They're all potentially starters, Just how we juggled that, trying to be fair, probably hurt Julius a little bit this year."

Jones signed with the Seahawks as a free agent, and he will have three years remaining on his contract. He said he does not second-guess his decision to come to Seattle.

"I don't regret coming here at all," Jones said. "This is the right place for me. We just had some unfortunate things happen to us this year."

Grim injury forecast

The Seahawks' injury report turned out to be as gloomy as the weather forecast when Holmgren was asked about starters Matt Hasselbeck, Sean Locklear and Leroy Hill.

"Grim, grim and grim," Holmgren said. "It will take a little minor miracle for them to play."

All three are considered doubtful for Sunday's game against the Jets. Hasselbeck is out because of a sore back, Hill a neck injury. Locklear suffered a dislocated toe on his left foot Sunday in St. Louis. Second-year tackle Kyle Williams likely will replace Locklear at left tackle.

Family ties

It will be a banner day for the Holmgren family on Sunday when Mike's wife, Kathy, is expected to raise the 12th Man flag before the game.

Babineaux misses practice,

but expected to play

Safety Jordan Babineaux did not practice Wednesday. He is recovering from a concussion suffered Sunday in St. Louis, but is expected to be available for Sunday's game.
