Seahawks two-minute drill
Portis ran for 143 yards, his third-highest rushing total this season.
Players of the Game
Washington RB Clinton Portis: Portis ran for 143 yards, his third-highest rushing total this season.
Washington CB Shawn Springs: Springs intercepted a fourth-quarter pass from Matt Hasselbeck to clinch the game.
Seattle LB Julian Peterson: Peterson finished with eight tackles, two assists and a sack.
Seattle RB Maurice Morris: Morris gained a season-high 103 yards on 14 carries and scored a touchdown on a 4-yard reception.
Play of the Game
Morris' 44-yard run in the first quarter was the longest offensive play, but the most important play was Santana Moss' 24-yard reception in the fourth quarter. Seattle had just tied the score at 17, and Washington faced third-and-5 at its own 49. Moss caught a little bubble screen on the left sideline, evaded linebacker Lofa Tatupu and ran down the sideline for 24 yards. Coach Mike Holmgren challenged the play, believing Moss had stepped out of bounds. The call stood, so Seattle lost a timeout as well.
Turning Point
With 7:05 to play, Washington had the ball at its 4 after a punt by the Seahawks' Jon Ryan. Seattle had a chance to seize the advantage with field position, but Washington handed the ball to Portis on three consecutive plays and he gained 9, 11 and then 20 yards. Washington eventually fumbled away the ball on that possession, but by that time field position had already swung against the Seahawks.
Sunday's Seahawks Surprises
• Hasselbeck passed for 103 yards, his fewest in any start since Jan. 1, 2006, when he played only two quarters of the season finale at Green Bay.
• Portis gained 143 yards, the highest single-game total against the Hawks this season. It was the most rushing yards allowed by Seattle since Frank Gore gained 144 yards on Dec. 12, 2006.

• It's not a surprise, but Sunday's loss guarantees Seattle will finish with its first losing season since 2002.
By the Numbers
72 yards Seattle drove for a touchdown on its final possession of the first half.
43 net yards of offense Seattle gained on its first four possessions of the game.
55 yard kickoff return for Josh Wilson, 1 yard shorter than his return last week.
38:27 amount of time Washington held the ball. Tampa Bay is the only team with a larger edge in time of possession against Seattle this season.
Injury Report
Seattle: DE Darryl Tapp suffered a knee injury in the first half but returned to the game.
Washington: Portis strained a hip muscle in the second quarter. DE Andre Carter suffered a foot injury in the third quarter. DT Kedric Golston suffered an ankle injury and did not return.
