Seahawks' Patrick Kerney won't play Sunday

Patrick Kerney's injured left shoulder will keep him out of the Seahawks' game Sunday against Philadelphia. Kerney is scheduled to have his shoulder examined by another doctor.

Seattle Times staff reporter

Patrick Kerney's injured left shoulder will not only prevent him from playing in Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, but it's serious enough he's headed to Alabama to have a doctor take a look at it.

Coach Mike Holmgren disclosed that on his radio show this morning on KIRO-AM.

Kerney underwent offseason surgery to repair a torn labrum suffered in last season's playoff game against Washington. He reinjured the shoulder during last week's victory in San Francisco.

There was initial optimism that the recovery time would be quick after Kerney regained strength in the shoulder by Monday, but on Wednesday, Holmgren said the shoulder had become more sore, indicating a potential problem.

Kerney has not missed a game since signing with the Seahawks as a free agent in 2007. He leads the team with five sacks.
