Notebook | Mike Holmgren's message remains optimistic

RENTON — Stressing the need for players and coaches to stay positive and "fight through this," Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said he isn't worried about an attitude problem as the team deals with a 1-4 record.

"They're a pretty good group that way, but they're hurting just like we all are," Holmgren said.

Holmgren's message to the team continues to be about improving and correcting mistakes. He added that more lineup changes could be coming — the Seahawks moved Josh Wilson to the starting right cornerback position and had Koren Robinson start at wide receiver in Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers.

One adjustment is using running back Maurice Morris more often, which Holmgren said he'll try to do Sunday when the Seahawks play at Tampa Bay. Morris returned from injury Sunday.

"We haven't been here in a while and people don't know how to act," Holmgren said. "They don't know what to say. They don't know how to feel. But it's football, for Pete's sakes. We're a little banged up, and we lost another football game. So it's important that they don't lose hope, and that they keep working hard."

Holmgren said defensive tackle Rocky Bernard, linebacker Lofa Tatupu, defensive end Patrick Kerney and tight end John Carlson played well Sunday. Holmgren also said left guard Mike Wahle played his best game of the season, though Wahle was flagged for a critical holding call in the third quarter that nullified a long run.

Holmgren said he didn't agree with the call and will have a tape of the play sent to the NFL offices for review.

Heller out this week

Holmgren's injury update included a status report on Kerney, safety Deon Grant and tight end Will Heller.

Kerney missed a few plays late in the game with a stinger but is expected to be available to play Sunday at Tampa Bay. Grant injured his left knee early in the game but missed only a few plays before returning and finishing the game. He won't practice much this week though he is expected to play against the Buccaneers. Heller, the backup tight end, has a strained ligament in his left knee and will be out indefinitely.
