Seahawks' Hasselbeck out another week
Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's knee problem is related to a bulging disk in his back, and he'll miss another game, Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren said today.

RENTON — Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck was in Los Angeles today to see a medical specialist about his right knee injury, and the medical report given to coach Mike Holmgren was that the back injury Hasselbeck sustained during the first exhibition game of this year was creating the problem with his leg.
The knee injury is related to a bulging disk in Hasselbeck's back, Holmgren said.
"It appears as though he will not be able play this week," Holmgren said. "They put him on a series of rehab tests and... as soon as he can pass those as far as strength in his leg, then we can get him back on the field."
The team hopes to have Hasselbeck back for the Seahawks' game at San Francisco Oct. 26. Seattle's next game is Sunday at Tampa Bay.
Seneca Wallace, Hasselbeck's backup, could start the Tampa Bay game depending on what he shows Holmgren in practice this week. Wallace is dealing with a sore calf and could only have played if No. 3 quarterback Charlie Frye got hurt against Green Bay. Frye played the entire game, and will get the call again if Hasselbeck and Wallace are ruled out.
Hasselbeck twisted his back awkwardly Aug. 8 at Minnesota and missed the entire exhibition season. He was treated with injections and opened the regular season as the starter but suffered an apparent bone bruise in his knee after a hit early in the Seahawks' loss to the New York Giants on Oct. 5.
Hasselbeck, a 10th-year pro, missed the entire week of practice leading up to the Green Bay game and was not active for that game.
"The fact is, right now they're dealing with his back more than his knee," Holmgren said.
