Notebook | Seahawks' quarterbacks nurse injuries
The Seattle Seahawks' third-string quarterback, Charlie Frye, was the only quarterback who practiced Wednesday afternoon. RENTON — The Seahawks spent the first month of the season scrambling to find receivers to catch the ball.
On Wednesday they were down to one player throwing it.
Charlie Frye, the team's third-string quarterback, was the only quarterback who practiced Wednesday afternoon.
Starter Matt Hasselbeck sat out because of a sore knee, the result of a first-quarter hit in Sunday's loss to the Giants. Backup Seneca Wallace re-injured his calf during the Seahawks' morning workout on Wednesday.
That left Frye making all the throws for the first-unit offense and the scout team.
"It was pretty tiring," Frye said.
Hasselbeck was not available to answer questions after practice, but said in a teleconference with media who cover the Green Bay Packers that he expects to practice today.
"We're being cautious with it," Hasselbeck said, according to The Associated Press. "So I think I'm just going to watch [Wednesday]. But that wasn't my choice. I wanted to get out there today. It should be fine [today]."
The calf injury Wallace suffered Wednesday was not as serious as when he strained the calf during warmups before Seattle played San Francisco. Wallace was on crutches for a week after that injury.
As for Hasselbeck, Holmgren said he wasn't sure his quarterback would practice today or Friday. While Holmgren said practice time is important for every player, practice availability won't determine Hasselbeck's status Sunday against Green Bay.
"If Matt didn't practice all week and could play on Sunday, I would welcome him with open arms," Holmgren said. "He has to play."
Taylor signs with practice squad

The Seahawks released Courtney Taylor on Tuesday and signed him to the practice squad on Wednesday after he cleared waivers. He ran onto the field in time to participate in practice with the scout team.
Taylor began the season as Seattle's starting flanker, and caught four passes in those two games. But he moved down the depth chart after that and was inactive against the Giants.
"We wanted him to be our starting flanker, and he wasn't quite ready to handle that," Holmgren said. "I think he has a bright future. It's just that he needs a little more seasoning."
Jordan Kent took Taylor's place on the Seahawks' 53-man roster.
Hot corner
Josh Wilson is expected to see time with the first-unit defense this week at right cornerback, a spot Kelly Jennings has played. Jennings was beaten by Domenik Hixon for a 32-yard touchdown for the Giants' first score Sunday and suffered a concussion during New York's second series.
"You'll see Josh playing some at the corner position," Holmgren said. "That's one of the things we've maneuvered just a little bit more."
Jennings, who suffered a broken rib in the second game of the season, practiced Wednesday and will be on the field at right cornerback when Seattle uses five defensive backs. Wilson will slide inside to cover a slot receiver.
Notes
• WR Deion Branch did not practice because of a bruised heel. There is no timeline for his return.
• LB Leroy Hill was limited in practice because of a sore knee, but that isn't expected to affect his status for Sunday's game. WR Koren Robinson and RB Maurice Morris both participated in a full practice. Neither of those players were active against New York.
