NFL | Jim Zorn's offense struggles in debut

ASHBURN, Va. — While the regular season is kicking in for everyone else, the Washington Redskins still looked very much in preseason mode in Thursday night's 16-7 loss to the New York Giants.
"It's not just me; it's everybody," said quarterback Jason Campbell, who was 15-of-27 passing but didn't complete a pass until the final two minutes of the first half. "Hopefully, the light's going to come on quick for all of us, including the offensive coaches, and we build some kind of continuity and get trust going with each other, and get things going."
The Redskins were outgained 241-51 in the half and didn't have a drive last more than six plays until late in the fourth quarter
Coach Jim Zorn, the former Seahawks quarterback and coach, rapped on the podium as he talked about his first game of record, his frustrations coming through as he chided himself for some of his decisions. Zorn, who also calls the plays, said he lost track of the clock when he opted for a time-consuming running play with his team trailing by nine late in the game.
"I didn't quite punch myself in the face this morning, but I was angry with myself," Zorn said.
Notes
• Giants DE Mathias Kiwanuka alleged that Redskins OT Chris Samuels made a dirty play when he fell on the back of his ankle after being beaten on a pass rush on the final play of the NFL season opener.
"He was definitely beat," said Kiwanuka, who hurt his left ankle on the play, "and instead of recovering or giving up, I don't know how many options you had, but I just don't think there is any place for that in the NFL."
• Rather than losing a game paycheck of more than $191,000, Bills LT Jason Peters made plans to end his holdout and report to the team today. The NFL confirmed that Peters has sent a letter requesting reinstatement, which is a requirement in this case because he is on the Bills' reserve-did-not-report list.
• Jaguars WR Jerry Porter was ruled out of Sunday's game at Tennessee because of a hamstring injury.
• Cowboys CB Terence Newman (groin) is listed as questionable for Sunday at Cleveland, another sign that Adam Jones may make his Dallas debut as a starter.
• Packers RB Ryan Grant (hamstring) and DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (knee) missed practice as a precaution heading into Monday night's opener against Minnesota.
• Eagles WR Reggie Brown (hamstring) missed his second straight practice and is doubtful for Sunday's game against St. Louis.
• Dick Enderle, an offensive lineman who played eight seasons in the NFL after starring at the University of Minnesota in the 1960s, was found dead Thursday in his Manhattan apartment. He was 60.
