Seahawks | Michael Bumpus makes practice squad

The Seahawks signed seven players Sunday that form their practice squad, including former WSU star Michael Bumpus, and have one more slot to fill on that unit.

Seattle Times staff reporter

Former Washington State receiver Michael Bumpus, who led the Seahawks in receiving yards in the exhibition season, was signed to the team's practice squad Sunday.

Bumpus, an undrafted rookie, had eight catches for 133 yards and averaged 18.7 yards on three kickoff returns. He was one of seven players signed to the group.

Other practice-squad players are tight end Joe Newton and offensive tackle Kyle Williams, both of whom were on the practice squad in 2007. They are joined by first-timers Jamar Adams, a rookie safety; defensive tackle Kevin Brown; cornerback Marquis Floyd; guard Pat Murray; and tackle Samuel Gutekunst.

The team has one more spot open on the practice squad because Gutekunst, of Germany, was assigned to Seattle through the NFL's international developmental program. The team said it would sign that player at a later date.

Adams had six solo tackles (eight total) in the preseason. Floyd, a former Arena Football League player, made all three of his tackles in the exhibition finale last Friday against Oakland.

Brown, a rookie from UCLA, was signed to the roster on May 5, released on July 26 and re-signed Aug. 4. Murray was signed by the Seahawks on Jan. 9 of this year.
