Notebook | Lofa Tatupu leaves exhibition with bruised knee

SAN DIEGO — Breathe easy for now, Seahawks fans. Lofa Tatupu is "OK," as he put it when asked about his right knee injury in the locker room after the Seahawks' 18-17 loss to the San Diego Chargers Monday night at Qualcomm Stadium.

Tatupu left the game late in the second quarter. The official report was a bruised knee, and Tatupu didn't return to action.

Tatupu and No. 3 quarterback Charlie Frye, who started the game and played until about the 11-minute mark of the fourth quarter, both sustained knee injuries. Frye left the game and was replaced by Seneca Wallace.

Tatupu and Frye will have MRIs today, coach Mike Holmgren said.

"Neither one of them, we think, is serious," Holmgren said. "There's no ligament damage at all."

Frye said he got hurt on the play before his 12-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Kent, a short pass to Ben Obomanu for 5 yards. Frye was roughed up for a San Diego penalty two plays earlier.

"It's just sore," he said.

Duckett a lock?

Whether running back T.J. Duckett was on the bubble to make the final roster seems moot at this point, after Duckett led the Seahawks in rushing with 46 yards on six carries. He gained 36 on three rugged, 12-yard runs spanning the third and fourth quarters, leading to a Seahawks touchdown.

"I was just trying to get out there and make some plays," Duckett said.

Rookie Justin Forsett seemed to have grabbed a roster spot with his big game against Chicago. But he had just 9 yards Monday and lost a fumble.

"I wanted him [Duckett] to touch it," Holmgren said. "I know a little bit more about Duck and how he plays. I just have to find out what the fit is going to be."

Kent shines again

Jordan Kent put himself in a better position to make the team, with four catches for 47 yards and one touchdown.

Kent, a sixth-round pick out of Oregon in last year's draft, is the team's leading receiver in the exhibition season with nine catches for 115 yards and two touchdowns.

"I'm just going out there try to do the best I can and make it as tough as I can on the coaches," Kent said.

Holmgren was hoping to see production out of his receivers, specifically from Courtney Taylor and Ben Obomanu. But neither really stood out.

Taylor finished with three catches for 24 yards. Obomanu had just one catch, his first of the exhibition season. Rookie Michael Bumpus came in tied with Kent for most receptions (five) but had none Monday.
