Star of the day: MLB Lofa Tatupu. The guy never wants to miss a practice and the coaching staff has to order him to skip some at times, just to keep him fresh. As for his performance Monday morning, Tatupu showed why he is a three-time Pro Bowler. First he tipped a Matt Hasselbeck pass that TE John Carlson still managed to catch. He won the next round against Carlson, though, breaking up a pass. But one other play was quintessential Tatupu — the fourth-year pro knocked WR Nate Burleson off his route, then continued following the quarterback's eyes as Burleson was too off-balance to be open. The pass was intercepted by CB Kelly Jennings, and Tatupu rushed to the sideline where Jennings was running back the ball and delivered a punishing block to RB T.J. Duckett, who was trying to force Jennings out of bounds. That prompted S Deon Grant to run over and backslap Tatupu yelling "Oh yeah, Lof! Oh yeah!"

Catch of the day: The best was by Burleson, who hauled in a hard spiral from Hasselbeck on the right side. He reached over the sideline to make the grab while keeping both feet inbounds before falling.

Plack attack: P Ryan Plackemeier said he expects to be back on the practice field punting next Monday. He'll miss the exhibition opener at Minnesota because of continued rehabilitation from a torn pectoral muscle, but said he has been punting on his own, 10 sessions of 30 punts each. "It's been good," he said. "I haven't felt anything. I'm about three or four weeks ahead of schedule right now."

Shades of Gray: Fifteen-year veteran offensive lineman Chris Gray, injured and out for all but two days of camp, announced his retirement Monday after doctors informed him that his lower back injury, if aggravated, could cause paralysis. Asked what his plans were now, Gray said he's been in discussions with team executives about working in marketing with the Seahawks. "Kind of like Brett Favre, you know?" Gray joked, drawing laughter from those gathered. "It's not $20 million, but hey, 200 Gs [$200,000], I'll take it, man. It might go down to $50,000. It might work."
