Seahawks Camp | Day 7 highlights

A look at Day 7 of Seahawks training camp.

Four downs with ...

John Carlson, tight end

Height: 6-5 Weight: 251

Experience: Rookie. College: Notre Dame

Hometown: Litchfield, Minn. Born: May 12, 1984

What's the worst job you've ever had? Shoveling snow in February in Minnesota. It was my family job, my responsibility as one of the sons.

What's the last movie you saw? "Fool's Gold" with my wife. I have to throw that in there. I wouldn't watch a movie like that by myself.

What has been the biggest surprise at training camp so far? The speed of the game is so much faster. Just trying to learn how to play fast and to know your position well enough that you're not thinking and you can just react.

You were a good enough basketball player to turn out at Notre Dame. Do you still play? When I was training for the combine and the draft, we played some "Lightning" and some three-on-three. I haven't played five-on-five in a long time, though.

Offensive play of the day: Tight end John Carlson made a leaping catch behind linebacker Leroy Hill, coming down with a reception from quarterback Charlie Frye in the afternoon practice.

Defensive play of the day: Wide receiver Ben Obomanu earned a few "Ooohs" from the offense after following up a catch with a nifty juke in the middle of the secondary. Cornerback Kevin Hobbs short-circuited that celebration, though, poking the ball away from Obomanu and watching the defense recover.

Sing a new song: Leonard Weaver put linebacker Matt Castelo on his backside, then coach Mike Holmgren came over to talk to his fullback. A compliment on the block? Nope. A complaint about the gospel tune "Oh Happy Day" Weaver was singing.

"He's got a beautiful voice and he sings hymns out there," Holmgren said. "Well, I go to church and I love to hear hymns. Out here, I tell him, 'Please don't. I'm in a bad mood. I don't want to be in a good mood. No singing hymns.' "

Tatupu not full go: Linebacker Lofa Tatupu did not participate in 11-on-11 drills Thursday morning because of an injury. "He's got a little bump or bruise somewhere," Holmgren said. Tatupu participated in some individual drills but was replaced by D.D. Lewis in full-team drills. Holmgren said there's a chance Tatupu will miss Saturday's scrimmage.
