NFL | All quiet on Brett Favre stalemate
Green Bay Packers Coach Mike Murphy spoke Friday after a meeting of the team's executive committee. He was not available for comment, but a team spokesman said the club president has "full confidence" in how Thompson and McCarthy are handling this matter.
MILWAUKEE — Green Bay Packers president Mark Murphy has restated his support for general manager Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy in their dealings with Brett Favre.
Murphy spoke Friday after a meeting of the team's executive committee. He was not available for comment, but a team spokesman said the club president has "full confidence" in how Thompson and McCarthy are handling this matter.
Favre is scheduled to be the presenter for former center Frank Winters, one of the inductees tonight for the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame. Favre is a close friend of Winters' and, long before the Favre soap opera became national news, agreed to appear at the banquet in support.
In addition, the Packers filed a tampering complaint against the Minnesota Vikings, accusing their divisional rival of improperly contacting Favre. Though various sources would not reveal the details of the charge, an NFL source told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the Packers had "evidence" and "information" to make its case.
Notes
• Jerry Porter had surgery to repair a torn hamstring tendon, and the Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver will miss at least the entire preseason.
• The New York Jets signed tight end Dustin Keller, the 30th overall pick in the draft, to a multiyear contract.
• Second-round draft pick Devin Thomas of Michigan State signed a $4.83 million, four-year contract with Washington.
• The New Orleans Saints agreed to terms with kicker Taylor Mehlhaff and wide receiver Adrian Arrington, leaving only three draft picks unsigned as training camp approaches next week.
