Top 5 busted Seahawks draft picks
Danny O'Neil's top five Seahawks draft picks whose careers didn't live up to the expectations that led to their selection.
FIVE SEAHAWKS draft picks whose careers didn't live up to the expectations that led to their selection:
QB Dan McGwire
San Diego State
1991, 1st round (No. 16)
Silly Chuck Knox, he wanted to pick some guy named Brett Favre. Instead, the Seahawks selected the younger brother of the Oakland A's slugger. And given his pro career, Dan should take a page from Mark, and decline to talk about the past.
QB Kelly Stouffer Colorado State
1987, 1st round (No. 7)
Stouffer was actually the Cardinals' first-round pick in '87, but the Seahawks acquired him before the 1988 draft, trading Kenny Easley and an '89 first-round pick. Easley failed to pass his physical with Arizona. Seattle was 5-11 in Stouffer's 16 starts in the five seasons he lasted in the NFL.
QB Rick Mirer
Notre Dame
1993, 1st round (No. 2)
Can't call him a total bust. He passed for 2,833 his first year in the league and was named the NFL's offensive rookie of the year. He never passed for that many yards again in his next three seasons in Seattle and will be always compared to Drew Bledsoe, the top overall pick that year to the Patriots.

DT Steve Niehaus
Notre Dame
1976, 1st round (No. 2)
Like Mirer, a No. 2 overall pick from Notre Dame. Like Mirer, his rookie season was considered a success. And unfortunately, the rookie season was a high point for Niehaus, just as it was for Mirer. He was traded to Minnesota in 1979.
DE Lamar King
Saginaw Valley State
1999, 1st round (No. 21)
Seattle needed a defensive end when coach Mike Holmgren arrived. Sure enough, he picked a defensive end. King had six sacks his second season in the league, but had only four sacks his next three seasons combined and didn't play in the NFL again.
