The Seahawks game in Dallas figured to be one of the most prominent games on Seattle's 2008 regular-season schedule.
Turns out it will be one of the most prominent games in the country, the second of three NFL games that will be played on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27.
Each team won its division last season. They played in a memorable playoff game two years ago when quarterback Tony Romo bobbled a snap, aborting what would have been the game-winning field goal and then got tackled from behind by Jordan Babineaux. The last three regular-season games have been decided by a combined total of 10 points.
The league announced its schedule on Tuesday though the list of Seattle's 2008 opponents — as well as the breakdown of home and road games — was completed at the end of the season.
The Seahawks play two games against each of the three other teams in the division. Then — like all NFC West teams this season — they will face all four teams from the NFC East and the AFC East. As division champion, Seattle faces last season's NFC South champ (Tampa Bay) and the NFC North champ (Green Bay).
The Seahawks won't play on Monday night this season, the first time they've been omitted from the Monday night menu since 2003. They will play two games on Sunday night on NBC, playing in Tampa Bay on Oct. 19 and then hosting New England on Dec. 7.
The Patriots are one of two teams the Seahawks have never beaten with Mike Holmgren as coach. The New York Jets are the other. The Seahawks will play both those teams this season, which will be Holmgren's last as head coach. As Seahawks coach, Holmgren is 0-4 against Washington in the regular season, but the Seahawks have beaten Washington in the playoffs twice in the past three seasons.
The Seahawks have their bye in the fourth week of the season, which is earlier than teams usually like. Seattle also had a bye in the fourth week of 2004. The Seahawks won their first three games that season before the bye and lost the next three afterward.
